The road ahead for the S.T.E.A.L. Saga

The Path to the Light was released on 26th January. A long time has passed and some may wonder what will be the future of The S.T.E.A.L. Saga, since it’s officially finished. Well, it’s not exactly true. First of all, we released Visions later on, a nice book collecting all the illustrations (plus new ones) that appeared in the books. But that’s not all.

We recently started an effort to bring the three books together, forming an unique, coherent story. This post, and the ones that will follow, aims at giving a better insight of what we are doing right now, the challenges we have to face, and also the reasoning behind some of the choices that were made back then. Of course, if you have read the books and think that some part of the story need changes, let us know.

Let’s start off by talking about the book that started it all: Lost Innocence.

Everything started one night

The genesis of Lost Innocence has been detailed in another post. What I’m focusing on is the fact that the writing took really a long time (10 years. more or less) and with a world that was different from now. Therefore, the story was devised with certain features in mind. Of course, times change, and also at the time there was no idea of making a trilogy. Therefore, we sat and discussed how the whole saga could be improved to become more coherent and unique. It’s not easy at is it seems: there are a lot of things that came out of my mind while I was writing, especially later on. And being Lost Innocence the oldest novel, it is the one that needs more changes.

Planned changes are:

  • More details of Satsuki’s past, especially her relationship with her father, her mother and her sister;
  • More insight into Yumiko’s mind as the story progresses;
  • Addition of whole new parts that fit into the series’ universe and the extracosmic powers that inhabit it;
  • In depth description of Jim and his attitude towards Satsuki;
  • More background details that fit into the overall story of the novels;
  • A brand new prologue that will explain Yumiko’s origin much better.

It’s all not text

With this new interation, there will also brand new artwork, done by the talented artist Bokuman, whose artwork also appears in Visions. Here are a few examples:
